4. A MISSIONARY NEEDS THE POWER OF THE PESO.
After a long letter regarding the resurrection of our Lord Jesus, Paul the Apostle, made mention of a certain collection designed to help to help the saints in Jerusalem. He wrote in I Corinthians 16.1-3, "Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye. Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God has prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come. And when I come. whomsoever ye shall approve by your letters, them will I send to bring your liberality to Jerusalem."
Lessons learned from these verses are:
1) The local church at Corinth makes and gathers the collection.
2) Weekly collections done on the first day of the week.
3) This collection is not for the local church to use; rather it is for the saints outside Corinth.
4) Other local churches are enjoined to do so.
5) Every one should participate.
6) This collection is forwarded by church authorized representatives to the recipients addressed.
The Apostle Paul commended the Philippian Christians for their generous giving in support of their missionary. He said, "Now ye Philippians know also...no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only...ye sent once and again unto my necessity. Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account." (Phil.4.15-17).
Every peso collected and invested in ministries around the globe will do great works to the spreading of the Gospel of Grace to all peoples.
